Hey there! We're Sticky Beards Honey, a couple of nature enthusiasts from Birmingham who happen to have some pretty impressive facial hair. Our love for the great outdoors runs deep, whether it's bushcraft, growing food, photography, or camping - we're all about it!
Early in 2022, while out snapping some wildlife shots, Luke (the one with the big beard) stumbled upon an abandoned apiary with decaying hives. Not being bee experts ourselves, he reached out to Dan (the one with the little beard), and together we got in touch with Owen Pengelly, who knew a thing or two about honeybees. To our surprise, we discovered that the hives were infected with a serious disease called European foul brood, which we had to report to DEFRA. National bee inspectors paid us a visit, and the site was cleared of bees and equipment. Sadly, all the honey bees had to be euthanized, and the old hives were burnt to prevent further spread of the disease. Our first experience with honeybees turned out to be quite challenging...
Thankfully, Owen generously offered to mentor us as we embarked on this new journey. With the support of other local beekeepers, family, and friends, we managed to raise the necessary funds to restore the site. We're now determined to continue pursuing our newfound passion, and we're looking to expand our brand to offer our sweet, sticky honey to all - bearded or not (we don't discriminate!). Every step of the way, we aim to educate and inspire others to connect with nature.
Feel free to join us on social media (check out the links at the bottom of the page) to follow our ups and downs as we learn and grow as beekeepers.
Wishing you all the best,
Luke & Dan x
